Escape the noise.
Reconnect with what matters.

Since the 1970s, Suomi Cabins has been our way of sharing Finnish cabin life with people in the UK looking to recharge their mind, body and soul in nature.

YOUR HOSTS

We’re Mark, Sibylle and family

We care for the cabins and your stay, ensuring everything runs smoothly. You’ll have complete privacy, but we’re nearby if a question or need ever arises. We're always happy to share a local recommendation, lend a helping hand or say hi.

How it all began

We grew up at a simple, off-grid Finnish cabin

As one of six children, Helena grew up at an off-grid lakeside cabin in Finland - swimming, reading and wandering through the woods. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹With nature, lake dips and conversations in glowing saunas, it was a place to feel present with family and friends.

In the UK, Helena longed for that way of life

Years later, living with her husband Richard in Ringwood, Helena regularly returned to Finland with Richard and their son, Mark. The cabin became a special gathering place for all generations in her family. A place to connect with her siblings, parents and neighbours. A place to share her home with her son. A place to reconnect with what matters.

However, they all missed the nature, cosy interiors and traditional wellness practices that were ingrained in Finnish cabin life, when they were in England.

So she built a cabin inspired by home

With the help of family and friends, Helena built Laatokka - the first Suomi Cabin ("Suomi" meaning Finland in Finnish) - using traditional Finnish logs and design. Its name is a nod to Lake Ladoga, once part of Finland.

Friends quickly fell in love with it

Initially built for her own family, the cabin quickly became popular with friends who wished to use it for their own family gatherings.

So over time, more cabins were built - and more openly shared.

And that’s how Suomi Cabins began

Now over 40 years later and in the care of Mark and Sibylle, the Suomi Cabins continue to do what they were built to do: offer a place to connect - with each other, nature and a peaceful pace of life.

It all began as Helena’s home. We’d love for you to feel at home here too.
